What's my quota?

She was going out of town for the weekend, to see a friend.  She seems to have a friend in a lot of big cities, Chicago, New York, LA, even London.  She's worked all over you see.  She doesn't like to tell her mom when she leaves.  Her mom is dependent on her, but she'll be okay.  Mom has a home health aid that comes around.  If she's lonely she has other children she can call.  Why she should be kept in the dark about her daughter's travels?  Its none of my business and I don't mind keeping such an innocuous secret.  Perhaps parental judgement is too much for my friend.  I'm told not to tell my Mom either.  Fine.  Just in case she slips up and says something.  It has happened.  We're not used to keeping secrets in my family.

I did ask if I could go.  My friend immediately looked uncomfortable.  I back pedaled.  Oh, I'm sure you want to have time to yourself with your friend.  Not a big deal.  I didn't think it odd at the time.  I never do.  The thing is, my friend is usually a bit clingy and normally loves having me along.  I actually feel off the hook.

Well something did come up while she was gone.  Her mom needed something.  Why not ask the neighbor?  The neighbors are close with her.  They know she's old.  They know she needs things occasionally.  My friend said her mom didn't want the neighbors to know, but she is comfortable with me.  Seems unlikely, but why shouldn't I help out my friend's mom?  She didn't need anything I couldn't handle.  I even sat and chatted with her for a while.  She's a great listener.  Whether she understands me or not, I'm not sure.  So all was well.  I go.

I call my friend and give her a report.  She's whispering.  Says she's in a museum.  That's plausible.

Now....

This is my friend the disavowed secret agent (or so I imagine).  Her travels have to be secret because she can't be connected to whatever espionage is going down in (redacted)!  Her mom knows her secret but no one else does.  Mom worries like one does.  She keeps begging, I thought you were retired!  Why do you keep doing this?!  What if the bad guys catch you my little one?!  Thus the secrecy.  She likes to have me along usually because it bolsters her cover and I provide a great human shield.  This wasn't a simple spy mission though.  She had an active role this time.  In fact when I called, she had to whisper because she was hiding out under the mark's bed.  She was planting bugs and searching for nuclear bomb codes when she heard the outer door open.  She hid in the closest spot, under the bed.  Now she just has to wait for the mark to fall asleep and make her escape.  Still she can take a call.  This is just another day at the office for her.  Besides the mark seems to be borderline psychotic.  He won't notice a thing.  Strange, disembodied voices are probably normal for him.  if he does get suspicious, eh, collateral damage.  she's still under quota for kills.

But what about her mom's neighbors?  Why aren't they trustworthy?  Has she come to suspect they're not civilians?  A girl like her can't be too careful.  If they're allowed in her mother's home, they may plant bugs of their own.  They may find her 'go' bag containing numerous quality passports, all with different names but all with her face.  Then it's a simple matter of holding mom hostage.  They want those nuclear codes too and guess what?  They also haven't reached their kill quota.

Yep, totally what's going on.
