Bourbon Trail because why not

I just got back from my fourth trip to Kentucky.  I'm only going to talk about the last three tho.  We have an annual trip now, every May to the Bourbon trail.  Year one was an accident.  I had just moved out on my own.  Here I was a 48 year old woman who'd never lived by herself (it may have felt like it, but not technically).  My marriage of 27 years had just ended.  I'm not ashamed to say i was freaking out just a bit.  Let me tell you, I have GREAT friends.  from now on instead of trying to keep it anonymous by using words like bestie and new bestie, and whatever nonsense I used before, I'm going to call them by initials.  Not necessarily her initials, but initials just the same.  And make no mistake, they are GREAT.

So, BA says we gotta get you out of town girl! and picks me up in her really cool convertible.  you know me, always up for an adventure.  We were going to go to the east coast because we love the ocean.  Sadly the weather wasn't cooperating.  What do we do?  Let's check Accuweather!  Where is it not raining?  Before we even left my neighborhood, we had a new plan.  Kentucky.  Neither of us are big on bourbon but who cares!  We have a convertible, and we like day drinking.

We liked it so much, it is now an annual trip for BA and I, and whoever is lucky enough to tag along.  We always hit Jeptha Creed.  They make a beautiful blueberry mint something or another with blueberry Vodka.  Then there's Castle & Key with their stunning grounds and excellent gin, which i normally hate.  Want the best craft cocktail in the world?  Wiseguys in Covington has an upstairs bar.  Picture bar men with fun hats, facial hair, and those arm garter thingys.  Try a smokey old fashioned, or a pretty pretty princess.  a delight to watch them create and a delight to sip and boy howdy, do i feel happy.

This year we threw in a few wineries.  We saw lots of barn cats, farm dogs, and old horses.  We did a distillery tour for once.  i am the only ones who finds that fermentation smell strangely enticing.  On the way home we stopped by Big Bone Lick (it's on Beaver Street) and saw buffalo!  Why oh why did i not buy that post card that read, Big Bone Lick on Beaver Street south of Sugartit?  I hear you laughing!  Don't deny it!

Let's take a moment to talk about BA's convertible.  As long as it's not raining or snowing the top is down.  Wear sunscreen.  The heat may be on.  The A/C may be on.  Whatever it takes to be comfortable other than putting the top up, because yeah.

Ok, Kentucky.  Skip the big Arc.  it's cool to look at.  Find an internet pic.  It's expensive.  Pay for parking, pay for entry, pay again to enter the Arc.  Meh.  Do visit Louisville.  Do visit Lexington.  Do stop at what ever catches your eye in between.  and Take GREAT friends.
