The US of A in a hurry!

Ok, one of my best trips.  Me and the old man went to Idaho in 2012.  He was buying a car.  that's what he liked.  so we flew out and drove home.  There's a lot of cool shit out there but we only had a few days to drive back and we already lost a day because of flight issues.  Now this is where I shine!  We have x number of days to drive cross country.  What do you wanna see!?!  i was so excited!  Also it was something we were doing together!  Fuckin' A!  Let's see the country at about 100 miles per hour!

First 'stop', Yellowstone Park.  Geisers!  cool.  really foreign looking landscapes covered with minerals and steam.  like, alien foreign!  We both had the same thoughts.  What did the first settlers think when they saw this?  Is this hell?  Oh a buffalo trotting along the side of the road!  what are you doing?  don't roll down my window!  is that snow?  what's with all the down trees?  Hey, Old Faithfull!  A 'grand' canyon! i hope we see bears! Ok, on to the next thing.  (100 mph, remember?)

Big Horn National Park is a beautiful drive.  we saw a lot of jumpy animals tho.  were they antelope?  i don't know.  and a lot of motorcycles, so you know it's a fun drive.  And an Elk!  he was a big fucker but far away.  that's a good thing.  I don't have a lot to say about it, except it was beautiful.  this was the first time as an adult I'd been in the 'west', so everything was new and wonderful.

Next 'stop', Devil's Tower!  check it out!  it's so weird.  you're driving down the road, turn a bend, and there this monolith is, just sticking out of the ground surrounded by nothing.  what the hell?  ok, so i know its a plug of magma that came spurting out of the ground a million years ago and all the rock has fallen away leaving just the 'lava rock', whatever you call it.  i'm not a geologist.  I also learned that the natives keep it sacred so they don't like us to climb it.  out of respect one month a year they encourage you NOT too.  not a rule, just a suggestion as we saw people climbing it.  assholes.  See those big grooves?  fun to climb but they were made by a giant BEAR!  sorry, the details are fuzzy.  Of course they have a little museum so you can learn all about the place and history.  you should go and report back for me.  oh and the one thing i remember as a child.  prairie dogs!  cute little bastards and they sound like birds.

Next - I think it was Mount Rushmore.  Somewhere in this timeline we visited it.  Neither of us were impressed.  I don't know why.  Seems it would be impressive.  Massive sculpture.  Anyway, we stayed five minutes or so then bailed.

Next!!!!  The BADLANDS!  why are they bad?  more incredible scenery.  goats.  colors.  striations!  check it out.

I've stated before, i'm an old lady from somewhere green.  this landscape is weird and wonderful to me.

Next day.  you can tell when you cross the line between the desert and the green states.  everything starts to look more familiar.  our last stop was supposed to be Chicago but we'd run out of time.  I'd have to see it on my own later (and i did).  now, let me tell you, we did drive thru Chicago on a Tuesday night at like 9:00 if i recall and those people are insane!  remember i said we were seeing the country at 100 miles an hour?  well these people weren't seeing jack shit at, i don't know, let's say 200 mph.

And last, but not least, I got laid on this trip!  Way to put a cherry on top.
