The Silence of the Pigs

Mom met Dad in Kusel Germany or thereabouts.  I say thereabouts because technically they met at some castle close by, but Mom worked in Kusel in a restaurant/brewery.  Dad would go there to see Mom, and Grandma would make sure his pizza had more meat than bread.  My Dad was charming and handsome.  And to be honest, Grandma probably thought all Americans were rich.  That's ok.  Mom is still smitten after all these years.   Anyway!  Across the street from the Ziegelhutte (the name of the restaurant/brewery) was a slaughter house.  Fresh meat!  Specifically piglets.  Every Monday morning, early, the piggies cried as they were killed!  Mom, being a farm girl is sure they were young based on the high pitch of the squealing.  Now of course she felt a bit sad for the little pigs, otherwise she would not remember it was on Monday mornings nor would she remember the squeals.  Still she was a farm girl, so this was just li...
